The Boys season 3 star Jensen Ackles reveals cut Soldier Boy scene in episode 5

"I think they had to cut it down for time."

The Boys spoilers for the latest episode follow.

Season 3 episode 5 of The Boys is already going down in history as having one of the show's most memorable scenes, in which Crimson Countess is entertaining a horny Seth Rogen on video call.

The session is interrupted when Countess is captured by Butcher, Hughie, and Marvin – before Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles, walks in and confronts her over what happened with the Russians. Finding out the truth about Countess' betrayal, he then kills her.

But as Ackles revealed to Digital Spy and other press outlets, that scene had a lot of content cut out of it.

Although the actor thinks it's overall for the best, he still walked us through what went down in the filmed version.

"It’s the first time that he's facing anyone from his team," Ackles explained. "We come to find out what happened in later episodes. But he wants to find out from her first why he ended up where he ended up.

"How come nobody came and looked for him? What went wrong? How could you hang me out to dry like that? Obviously he doesn't get the answers that he was hoping for.

"To be honest, when we filmed that scene, it was a lot longer. I think they had to cut it down for time or whatever. But it got pretty heated, that conversation, and Soldier Boy gets really verbally explosive. They cut that out.

"And I think it probably serviced the scene better, because he does stay calm now, throughout the whole thing. And then it's just boom. I think it works just great the way they cut it together."

Ackles continued: "But he wants some answers. He wants to know what the hell happened.

"So when he starts going around, and ticking off the names on his to-do list, we get a greater sense of who he was, what happened to him, and the kind of character that not only he was back then, but that he is currently in this new world that he's found himself in – this fish out of water.

"And I think that he finds a lot of similarities, too, with what Butcher's aligning with and what he's trying to do. But they certainly come at it from a couple of different angles. They certainly have their faults."

Ackles has only been in a few episodes of the show so far, but he's already had multiple moments that we're not likely to forget anytime soon, including performing the entirety of the rap from Blondie's 'Rapture', something he called "mindless drivel" and also "a lot of fun".

The Boys seasons 1 and 2 are available to watch in full on Amazon Prime Video. Season 3 premiered on June 3 with new episodes releasing weekly.
